Aristedis Sotiras, PhD

Aristeidis (Aris) Sotiras, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Radiology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania, with secondary appointments in the Departments of Electrical and Systems Engineering and Biostatistics, Epidemiology and Informatics. He is a principal investigator in the Center for Biomedical Image Computing and Analytics (CBICA), where he leads the Medical Imaging and Data Science (MINDS) Laboratory. 

Dr. Sotiras completed his undergraduate studies in Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens, Greece. He subsequently received his MSc in Mathematics, Vision and Machine Learning from École Polytechnique and École Normale Supérieure and his PhD in Applied Mathematics from École Centrale Paris. His research lies at the intersection of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and medical imaging, with a particular focus on developing computational methods for analyzing complex biomedical data. His work integrates neuroimaging with clinical and molecular information to identify imaging biomarkers, characterize biological and clinical heterogeneity, and develop predictive models that can advance precision medicine. His research has broad applications in brain aging, Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, and other neurological and neuropsychiatric disorders.
